Anantara and AVANI Hotels & Resorts to End the use of Plastic Straws

From the 1st January 2018, every hotel, restaurant and bar of Anantara and AVANI Hotels & Resorts throughout Asia will be eliminating the use of plastic straws.

Whether it’s Zuma in Anantara Layan Phuket, or the iconic cliffside restaurant Il Mare at Anantara Tangalle, Sri Lanka, every outlet at every hotel in Asia will be substituting 2.5 million plastic straws used every year for biodegradable and recyclable alternatives.

The ubiquitous nature of plastic has long concerned all of us at Anantara and AVANI and our priority is to preserve the stunning destinations that we invite our guests to experience for future generations. We recognise that our guests are increasingly eco-conscious and the shift in demand for sustainable travel options means that the decision to end the use of plastic straws was a natural one. It is also a major step forward in achieving our sustainability goals and for protecting the natural habitats of many endangered species of marine life across Asia, such as dugongs and turtles.

This positive change will also be adopted in other markets across our footprint by the end of 2018.
