Located on the 2nd floor of Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, The Mandarin Barber introduces a new service where guests who book a Baby’s First Haircut can turn the lock of hair into a Chinese calligraphy brush as a lifestyle keepsake starting from 1 September 2019.
This rare craft symbolises the everlasting bond between parents and their children since it is the only time when human hair tapers naturally at the tip, which makes this practice so unique and special. It requires more than 20 steps and up to 60 days to create a Chinese calligraphy brush made from baby hair. Packaged in a lavishly designed wooden gift box, each brush can be engraved with the baby’s name, birthday and any wishes to be kept as a personalised memento. Guests can choose from a selection of delicate woods including Chinese mahogany, ebony, rosewood and boxwood. The price for a handmade Chinese calligraphy brush starts from HKD 888 each, in addition to the cost of the Baby’s First Haircut. As an exclusive launch offer, the first eight guests who place an order will receive a complimentary Mason Pearson child’s hairbrush valued at HKD 640.
The Baby’s First Haircut service is an exclusive experience where the little one will be comforted in a pink or blue children’s cutting gown and will be made to feel welcome with milk and cookies. Whilst taking the haircut, they will enjoy a range of children’s toys and books or watch children’s TV shows on TV sets that are built into the mirrors. Priced at HKD 695, the Baby’s First Haircut includes a certificate signed by the barber and lock of hair placed in a frame, as well as a special Mandarin Oriental rubber duck as a souvenir.
The Baby’s First Haircut 45-minute service is available every Sunday between 9am and 11am, for up to three children at any one time. The VIP private room is available at an additional 30% surcharge. Reservations can be made by calling +852 2825 4088 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
