A feast for all the senses; a new chef, a refreshed menu that nods to the Club’s roots, an updated wine list and bar programme plus all-new entertainment elevate the same timeless experience at the handsome Buenos Aires Polo Club.
Now leading the culinary team at the stately Argentine steakhouse, Chef Angie Ford introduces a refreshed lunch menu that nods to traditional parilla steakhouses in Buenos Aires, where perfectly cooked steaks and full-bodied Argentine Malbecs are the stars of the show. On the menu (HK$298, available weekdays), a choice of Onion soup and Wedge salad or Beef empanada, is followed by a choice cut of General Pico Black Angussteak prepared in the Argentine asado tradition – slowly grilled over open flames. Traditional Argentine sides including Fries Provencal with garlic and parsley complement the tender, juicy steaks. An impressive trolley showcases the club’s famous desserts, including freshly baked pies, cookies and gelato (an additional HK$48 per person).
A Canadian transplant, Chef Angie Ford comes to Hong Kong via Sydney where she worked with Stanley Wong at Eastside Kitchen & Bar. There, she practised ‘nose-to-tail’ butchery and exercised her passion for working with meat in all its variety, from ageing and butchery to curing and grilling. Having fallen in love with Hong Kong’s eclectic food scene, she joins Buenos Aires Polo Club as Executive Chef and showcases her versatility with the Club’s signature steak offerings.
Chef Ford is a formidable female force in a traditionally masculine genre of restaurants, leading with her steakhouse expertise to pair with the best collection of Argentine Malbecs in Hong Kong. At dinner Chef Ford plans to get back to basics, allowing prime cuts of grass-fed General Pico beef to do the talking. The restaurant houses a collection of 45 of the best known Malbec wines from the most prestigious wineries. 130 of the 168 references carried are from Argentina, with many available exclusively in Hong Kong at Buenos Aires Polo Club. Tamara Amaya, sommelière and Argentina native comments “We are very proud to boast the most extensive and impressive menu of Argentian wines outside of Buenos Aires”.
Over at the award-winning bar, Argentinian cocktail masters Axel Gonzales and Agustín Da Sambiagio have refreshed the spirited list of libations. These Rocktails are available late on Thursday nights when the sophisticated steakhouse transforms into Buenos Aires Rock Club. Lights go down, drinks flow, and the music turns way up giving way to a night of revelry celebrating rock from across the ages. Keep an eye out for Buenos Aires Rock Club guitar picks that will be handed out at other Black Sheep Restaurants on Thursday nights, these can be exchanged at the Club’s bar for some liquid ambition for you and your crew.
Black Sheep Restaurants’ infamous monthly brunch The Fiasco, has also found a new home at Buenos Aires Polo Club. A dining experience that excites more than just the taste buds, the brunch still takes place every last Saturday of the month and remains a heady, Bacchanalian affair that those in the know will testify to. An immersive experience that begins as soon as you step out of the seventh-floor elevators– not recommended for the faint of heart.
