Where is Kandima
It takes about 45 minutes by seaplane or a short domestic flight from Male international airport to Dhaalu Atoll followed by a 20-minute boat ride to the island. The Maldives is super convenient place to get to these days and a trip to Kandima is all part of the adventure to be away from everything. The amazing views of the islands and Atolls from your flight is all the worth while.
Style & Persona
Kandima is just simply an awesome resort. It has a motto of “Everyone Are Welcome” to entice all sorts of travellers. They cater guests from all ages, families, couples, groups of friends etc. The resort is huge and bold enough to do so. The colours conceptualised as a design element at Kandima remind me of somewhere in Greece or Italy and it blends so well with the turquois blue waters of the Dhaalu Atoll. It feels and is so hip and trendy.
There are three room types – The Water Villa, The Family Studio and The Ocean/Beach Front Pool Villa with open-air bath room and a full size Jacuzzi is where we stayed for a week. Our Villa was spacious and exceeded our expectations in terms of luxury and style. The views from our villa is just sublime and picture perfect and tie that in with a team of professional and friendly staff with a local touch to deliver delightful hospitality. Somehow life seems less intense, less stressed and I have a feeling we are gong to have an amazing experience here at Kandima.
Aside from being exotically in the middle of no where, I can’t rave enough about their employees & employers. It has an international team of more than 500 dedicated team members. Brett Castleman who is Kandima’s GM and a wonderful gentlemen mentioned that Interacting with their guests is an important aspect to connect with them. He went on to say Mini football is a huge sport on the island. He encourages the team to play football with their guests. This is one of the ways to ensure the service is intuitive, warm and assured and more importantly part of Kandima’s lifestyle resort.
A wide range of facilities can be found at the resort such as tennis, mini-football, volleyball, yoga class, boxing class, sunset fishing and dolphin watch, all sort of mortised or non-mortised water sport, Spa, Art classes and bike riding. Don’t miss a trip out to the nearby platform for complimentary scuba diving and an opportunity to touch and interact with the sea turtles. Kandima also has one of the biggest kids club and longest swimming pool in the Maldives.
I loved my time and felt “elevated” with an experience trying Aerial Yoga for the first time. Aerial Yoga definitely takes some getting used to. But all nostalgia aside, I can assure that despite some initial discomfort, you will float out of this class both relaxed and fulfilled. Our instructor, Grace is so talented in this field and such a pro at it. She will look after you like how you should. An experience here is a must if you are lucky enough to visit.
There’s an array of cuisines and cafes you can dine at Kandima.
As part of the half or full broad packages, two different restaurants serve International buffet from sunrise breakfast, midday lunch to sunset dinner. My highlights were the waffles and omelette for breakfast, green papua salad for lunch and fish curry at dinner.
It was so surreal when I found out there was a traditional Yum Cha place “Sea Dragon” on Kandima. The impression of Yum Cha restaurants are very noisy and busy but Sea Dragon has different ambience to it. You can choose a table (indoor or outdoor) in front of the ocean and able to view the colourful coral fishes, baby shakes or even Dolphins if you get lucky. They do serve a very high quality of traditional Dim Sum dishes such as BBQ pork bun, prawn dumplings.
To sum it up, This was my first time to the Maldives and it has been a privileged to stay at Kandima . This resort is perfect regardless whether you are honeymooners or traveling with family members. It is vast but beautiful decorated with delicious cuisines form all over the world and top it off with a great team lead by their amazing GM.
See you again soon Kandima Maldives.
