Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong is set to excite gastronomes by presenting an exclusive pop-up of Lord Stow’s Bakery from 1 July until 1 October 2019. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the legendary bakery will offer its famed Lord Stow’s Egg Tarts that make the perfect treat for guests on the go.
During a trip to Portugal in the mid-1980s, Andrew (Lord) Stow had become familiar with their popular Pasteis de Nata which is a type of egg tart that originated in the Belém district of Lisbon centuries ago. He was inspired to create his own recipe as part of his product range when he opened Lord Stow’s Bakery on Coloane Island, Macau in 1989.
Today, guests are lured from across the region for its artisan pastries, bakery products, and in particular, the renowned Lord Stow’s Egg Tart. Now an edible icon of Macau, over 21,000 of these little pieces of heaven are baked daily by Lord Stow’s. Exclusively available in Hong Kong, all Lord Stow’s Egg Tarts from the pop-up follow the same secret recipe where each pastry shell is hand-turned at Lord Stow’s Macau and then freshly baked on-site daily at the hotel. Guests will have the same sensational balanced consistency of the delicious custard filling and flaky pastry crust.
Available from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. daily in the hotel’s east lobby, Lord Stow’s Egg Tarts are priced at HKD 20 each. To complement the delicate pastries, freshly brewed Illy Coffee will also be on offer for takeaway at an additional cost.
