On the occasion of Olivier Theyskens’ return to ready-to-wear with his eponymous label for Spring Summer 2017, JOYCE Gallery presents an ephemeral footwear boutique and photographic exhibition dedicated to his work.
For two weeks only, guests are invited to order their very own bespoke Olivier Theyskens boots from the Spring Summer 2017 runway in an array of leather finishes exclusive to JOYCE. Originally shown in black or white patent leather, the softly-pointed ‘Steffy’ ankle boots with hook-and-eye corset detailing are offered in fantasy leathers like black lacquered ostrich, red or gold python, chalk white leather, and polka dot embroidered patent.
On display within the JOYCE Gallery, a new photographic portfolio by Olivier Theyskens and long-time collaborator Julien Claessens encapsulates the antiquity and modernity of Theyskens’ universe. Shot in the Belgian countryside near the designer’s hometown, the large-format images were photographed on a 19th century collodion wet plate camera. Entitled ‘Balade Éphémère’, the black and white photographs convey the sense of dark romance and a delicate femininity intrinsic to Theyskens’ work. Framed larger than life-size at JOYCE Gallery, they appear as atmospheric portraits transcending fashion photography for a timeless, melancholic beauty.
