The Danna Langkawi is a super luxurious colonial-style hotel…..
The moment you enter in The Danna you relax completely. When you check in they welcome you with cooling towels, a signature drink and a short but very relaxing head and neck massage.
The Danna blends a whitewashed colonial-style exterior with stylish interiors that have an overall classic vibe enlivened by contemporary touches.
On the main island of the archipelago of the same name, the Danna Langkawi is about a 15-minute transfer from Langkawi International Airport, which has links to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
It sits in a prime beachfront spot within a sheltered harbour protected from possible tsunamis by artificial islands. No part of the island is more than 45 minutes from the hotel by road, but The Danna is on the doorstep of some of Langkawi’s major attractions, including the SkyBridge, Seven Wells Waterfal and the Oriental Village.
From Merchant to Grand Viceroy, the 114 Langkawi rooms are elegantly appointed and generously spaced from 60 sq meters. Each room comes with a private balcony or terrace with an oversized daybed and frames different angles of the view, be it the hills, courtyard, Telaga Harbour Park, marina or the ocean. The rooms feature a four-poster King bed or 2 single beds, spacious bathroom with a separate rainfall shower and a soaking tub, twin vanities, a ceiling fan and all rooms are air-conditioned.
There are also 10 villas – nine are one-bedroom and one two-bedroom – that offer yet more luxury. These are single-floored villas reached by passing under canopy of tropical leaves and flowers to reach the front door. This opens up to a living room with floor to ceiling windows and a massive 42 inch smart TV and a mini bar whose contents are included in the price and restocked daily.
The infinity pool is stunning – they say it is the largest on the island –has shallow sections, jacuzzis, kids’ area and poolside service. It is surrounded by cabanas, beanbags, sofas and sun-beds.
Inside you’ll also find a spa with nine treatment rooms, a fitness room, a free kids’ club, a games room with billiards, snooker and board games, and a library.
The Danna’s main restaurant, Planter’s, serves excellent Mediterranean, European-inspired and local cuisine indoors or on the terrace. Standout dishes include Malay tiffin sets for two people and a trio of rendang.
We highly recommend the exquisite Indian curry’s. Planter’s is also the venue for breakfast – a fantastic buffet spread including Malaysian, Chinese and Western dishes, plus complimentary champagne.
The casual Strait’s & Co restaurant is the perfect place for lunch and offers everything from western staples like club sandwiches and burgers to local cuisine such as Penang Char Kway Teow and seafood fried rice.
Terrace restaurant & bar is a modern Langkawi dining. Inspired by earthy-hues, this swanky restaurant is offering an array of Italian delights, fresh seafood dishes and all-time favourites such as hand tossed Italian, sandwiches and other light meals, Terrace is open for lunch and dinner. For an authentic Italian dining experience, Chef Federico Zapperi who hailed from Italy will delight you with his dedicated culinary skills as he prepares his Italian specialties for diners.
The Verandah bar is a classy lounge style bar with a piano and in the evening we enjoyed cocktails and gin and tonics and complimentary snacks. There’s Happy Hour between 5 and 7 each night and most evenings there is live music.
The excellent service from the professional and friendly staff at The Danna Langkawi was exceptional.
The staff does everything to make your stay at The Danna an unforgettable pampering experience you will never forget.
