Alto Astral marks a luminous new chapter in the Byredo fragrance universe — a radiant tribute to the vibrant emotional landscape of Brazil. Named after the Brazilian Portuguese phrase for an “elevated state of mind,” Alto Astral captures a sensory portrait of optimism, movement, and cultural energy.

Infused with the colour, rhythm, and heat of Brazil, this scent draws on moments of joyful defiance — samba at dusk, ocean winds sweeping across the beach, the vitality of motorcyclists weaving through Rio’s winding streets. More than a fragrance, Alto Astral is a shared emotional frequency: a cultural optimism that endures, shines, and moves.

FROM RIO, JOY AS A STATE OF MIND

Lensed by Rio-born photographer Rafael Moura, the Alto Astral campaign unfolds across three intimate portraits of Brazilian life: dance, beach, and street. Raised in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, Moura brings a deeply personal vision shaped by lived experience and a profound commitment to authenticity. His lens captures the harmony between people and place, transforming fleeting moments into timeless narratives.

Featuring samba artist Duda Almeida, model Emilly Nunes, and a local riding crew, the campaign becomes a study in energy and truth — spontaneous, local, and vividly alive. It channels the alto astral mood not as a trend, but as a lived reality.

A moving image counterpart, directed by Brazilian filmmaker Breno Moreira, expands this emotional tapestry through a visceral cinematic lens. Shot entirely on location in Rio de Janeiro, the film immerses the viewer in the Alto Astral state of mind — a celebration of joy as identity.

THE SCENT STORY

Created by longtime Byredo perfumer Jérôme Epinette, Alto Astral opens with a luminous blend of aldehydes and coconut water, delivering a sparkling yet creamy prelude. At its heart, jasmine petals, incense, and milky musk swirl into an abstract warmth that floats effortlessly on the skin.

The base lingers with soft sensuality: sandalwood, cashmere wood, and salted amber leave behind a radiant, textural trail. The composition is one of contrasts — clarity and comfort, freshness and familiarity — capturing what can only be described as emotional luminosity.

Presented in Byredo’s signature flacon — minimalist, weighty, and timeless — Alto Astral lets the scent speak for itself. A clean white label bears its name, anchoring the story in elegant simplicity.
