LONGCHAMP X GLOVERALL Authenticity and Savoir-Faire

For the first time, Longchamp and Gloverall have united their creative traditions around fashion and leather goods. Together, the two Houses – one from Paris, the other from London – have reinterpreted two of their iconic pieces: Le Roseau bag and the duffle-coat. A collaboration celebrating French chic and British singularity.

Longchamp and Gloverall have jointly signed a new duffle-coat which spotlights their identities and their savoir-faire. Fabricated from woolen cloth in Gloverall’s historic London workshops, it is imbued with craftsmanship of the highest quality. Style mavens from Paris to London will love to wrap up in their Longchamp x Gloverall duffle-coat, in either navy blue or nutmeg yellow, appreciating its roomy cut, high collar and generous hood – details specially created for this collaboration. They alone know that a striped lining has replaced the traditional plaid in a discreet nod to the French marinière. Traditionally associated with the Royal Navy, the duffle-coat is instantly recognizable for its toggle-and-rope fastenings, designed in the 19th century to allow sailors to button up their three-quarter-length coats, even while wearing gloves.

Back in 1993, these emblematic fastenings, so synonymous with British style, inspired the signature bamboo toggle of Longchamp’s iconic Le Roseau bag. Today, this toggle, crafted from maple-wood, puts the finishing touch on the Longchamp x Gloverall duffle-coat, thereby fusing heritage and modernity.

Thirty years on, the collaboration also revisits the spacious, avant-garde design of Le Roseau, one of Longchamp’s most emblematic bags. Two signature pieces, two new, contemporary classics, ready to travel the world from London or Paris.

A celebrity fan club

Since 1951, Gloverall has been the label of choice of duffle-coat aficionados. With its large hood and typical fastenings, the duffle-coat is as characterful as the personalities with whom it is associated, from the legendary Field Marshal Montgomery to creative visionaries like Jean Cocteau and Stanley Kubrick. Inspired by the uniform of the Royal Navy, its style passed through generations to become a signifier of pacifist counterculture. Its iconic status was assured when it was finally adopted by women: subverting the military wardrobe, the Gloverall became a symbol of freedom and emancipation, worn with carefree elegance by modern rebels from Brigitte Bardot to Alexa Chung. Conveying nonchalance on Liam Gallagher and timeless charm on Paddington Bear, the duffle-coat has never chased trends – simply outlasted them.

“Longchamp is naturally curious about the world and craftsmanship beyond its traditional domain of leather goods. To tell the fabulous story of our Le Roseau bag, which was inspired over 30 years ago by duffle-coat toggles, I wanted to go back to the beginning by working with Gloverall, manufacturers in London since 1951. They are true artisans, and we wanted to combine our savoir-faire and our love of beautiful things. Every detail of this collaboration has been carefully considered, right down to the label which brings together the French Tricolore and the Union Jack.” – Sophie Delafontaine, Creative Director of Longchamp.

“Our collaboration with Longchamp reflects our deeply held, shared values: heritage, savoir-faire and a passion for timeless style. Today, we are celebrating a creative encounter between two historic brands to reinterpret our respective icons.” – Ivana Krajcova, General Manager of Gloverall.
