Tai Kwun Art Week 2026 (23 – 29 Mar)

As Hong Kong’s cultural calendar comes alive during Art Month, Tai Kwun Art Week 2026 returns from 23 to 29 March, presenting a vibrant programme of performances, exhibitions and immersive events across the historic Tai Kwun heritage site.

Presented in collaboration with Art Basel Hong Kong, the week-long celebration brings together live performances, extended exhibition hours and lifestyle experiences that transform the former Central Police Station compound into one of the city’s most dynamic cultural destinations. Tai Kwun Art Week has become a highlight of Hong Kong’s Art Month, inviting visitors to explore art, performance and heritage within one of the city’s most iconic revitalised landmarks.

Throughout the week, leading experimental creatives and visual artists from Hong Kong and around the world present bold cross-disciplinary performances that activate multiple venues across the heritage site. These live works bring energy and movement into Tai Kwun’s historic courtyards, galleries and performance spaces.

One of the highlights of the programme is Art After Hours: Beings in Motion, taking place on 28 March (Saturday) from 7pm to 10pm. The evening explores the theme of embodied knowledge, positioning the body as a site of expression and inviting audiences to engage with lived experience and contemporary social questions. Through performances that emphasise liveness, vulnerability and human interaction, the programme challenges ideas surrounding gender roles, identity and community. Featured artists include Geumhyung Jeong, Justin Talplacido Shoulder and Tation.

Another key moment of the week is Artists’ Night, held on 27 March (Friday) from 8pm to 11pm, an invitation-only event presented for the third consecutive year in collaboration with Art Basel Hong Kong. Across multiple venues within Tai Kwun, the evening celebrates emerging and experimental performers, bringing together artists and musicians from Hong Kong, the wider region and the international art community. The programme includes performances by Geumhyung Jeong, Justin Talplacido Shoulder, musicians DAVID BORING, Tation and Lydo, alongside a range of visual artists whose work reflects the evolving creative landscape of the region.

Among the performances featured during the week is Fire Drill Scenario by Geumhyung Jeong, a work that reflects on the relationship between safety and risk in live performance environments. Live performances often draw large groups into confined spaces, creating inherent risks. In Fire Drill Scenario, the artist choreographs safety instructions to familiarise audiences with evacuation procedures and emergency manuals, transforming routine safety protocols into a performative experience. The work investigates both the excitement and the real-life risks artists and audiences encounter when participating in live performance.

Fire Drill Scenario forms part of SPOTLIGHT: A Season of Performing Arts 2026, curated by the Tai Kwun Performing Arts Department.

Alongside the performance programme, Tai Kwun Contemporary presents the exhibition Stay Connected: Supplying the Globe, the second chapter of Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008. The exhibition features more than 70 artworks from over 40 artists, exploring individual stories, family histories and lesser-seen locations shaped by globalisation and China’s extraordinary economic growth over the past two decades.

Special opening hours during Art Week are as follows:
23 March (Monday): 2pm – 8pm
24 – 26 March (Tuesday – Thursday): 10am – 8pm
27 March (Friday): 11am – 10pm
28 March (Saturday): 11am – 8pm

The exhibition also includes participatory artworks. On 27 March (Friday), visitors to the 2/F JC Contemporary galleries can experience a mid-season sale of collected objects organised by the collective Foreign Investment, open late until 10pm.
