Essential Eames: A Herman Miller Exhibition, capturing the spirit and philosophy of the design world’s most famous couple – Charles and Ray Eames, is extending its stay in the Lion City. Originally scheduled to end its run on 5 January 2014, the exhibition will now extend until 16 February 2014.
Curated based on An Eames Primer, a book written by the couple’s grandson Eames Demetrios, the exhibition explores the contributions made by Charles and Ray Eames in design history. The exhibition is a showcase of the iconic couple’s unmatched creativity in architecture, exhibition design, toy making as well as photographic arts.
Essential Eames showcases a number of rare and never-before-seen works and images from the Eames family collection, the Eames Office and the archives of Herman Miller. Key highlights of the exhibition include the Moebius Strip and Celestial Mechanics from Mathematica: A World of Numbers…and Beyond, one of the most heralded exhibitions explaining the complex mathematical concepts through a fun way, as well as the House of Cards structure that is built using more than 1,500 notched cards. The House of Cards is the largest installation of its kind in the Asia Pacific region.
Visitors to the exhibition can also take part in various engaging and unique programming, specially designed to enhance the overall exhibition experience. One such activity allows visitors to create their own unique miniature furniture pieces by using many of the materials that are on display in the exhibition. This activity enables visitors to apply the principles of design addressed in the exhibition in their own creative manner.
