Ayana Certified As Eco Hotel By TUV Rheinland

AYANA Resort and Spa Bali has been certified as an Eco Hotel by the prestigious TUV Rheinland Germany, in recognition of its commitment to reduce its carbon footprint through environmentally sustainable practices.

TUV Rheinland conducted a rigorous audit over an 18-month period, including a thorough site inspection, documentation review, interviews with staff and management, and implementation of an action plan. The final audit found AYANA met all requirements of ecological operations relating to Organization and Objectives, Purchasing & Safety of Hazardous Substances, Water & Waste Management, Office Supplies, Facilities & Surroundings, Energy Management and Safety.

"AYANA has long followed environmentally sustainable practices — such as our two water recycling plants, which have been in use for more than 10 years to recycle 'grey' and 'black' water for use on our gardens and ponds, our composting program, energy efficiency and use of eco-friendly detergents and other products. These measures have been in place long before the words 'Eco Hotel' became a trendy catchphrase. It is rewarding to finally be officially recognized and we are extremely proud of everyone involved in this intensive certification process," said Clive Edwards, AYANA's Rooms Executive and the person-in-charge of the Eco Certification Program.

"Yet, this is not the end of the story for us. The world is changing every day and consumers are rightly demanding that businesses operate as responsible members of the community, putting back as much – if not more – than what they take.  We will continue to assess how we can further reduce our carbon footprint, while providing the highest level of service, facilities and guest experience," added Clive.

Aleenta Releases Endangered Turtles In Phuket

Aleenta Resorts Releases baby Turtles And Commits To Long-Term Conservation Project.

Guests at the exclusive Aleenta Phuket–Phang Nga (APH) resort were given the chance of a lifetime recently to help save indigenous turtles when they released 20 endangered baby leatherback turtles into the Andaman Sea.

The event was part of the Aleenta Resorts & Spa Mai Khao Marine Turtle Initiative, managed by corporate social responsibility group, Pure Blue Foundation, which also pioneered the groundbreaking reef restoration project off the coast of the resort. The Pure Blue Foundation was created by Aleenta Resorts founder Anchalika Kijkanakorn.

The resort has raised these particular baby turtles over the last few years and has shown its dedication to their cause by offering monthly support and funding to the Turtle Sanctuary, housed at the breathtaking Khao Lumpee-Haad Thaymuang National Park just 20 minutes south of the resort.

With this funding the resort employs a full-time representative to tend to more than 200 turtle hatchlings and rehabilitate injured turtles, as well as taking guests to visit the park. These particular 20 turtles were large enough to leave the nest and the sanctuary contacted APH to ask if it would like to release them back to their natural habitat as the resort had cared and nurtured them from the start.

The release of the baby turtles – on the critically endangered in Thailand list since 1996 – is further evidence of the resort’s strong commitment to remaining both environmentally friendly and socially responsible, while simultaneously offering guests a charming boutique hideaway on one of the world’s most beautifully natural and exotic beaches.

“We are a resort built on guilt-free luxury and are delighted to continue this important work – as well as give our guests the opportunity to become involved,” said Ms Kijkanakorn. “It is the type of rewarding experience guests can enjoy when they stay with us.”

Following the turtle release, the resort donated THB100,000 to the project and has committed to supporting the foundation in the long-term. Furthermore, on check-in, Aleenta offers guests information on turtle conservation and matches donations of THB40 per night to the Turtle Sanctuary.

The Pure Blue Foundation continues to raise funds and is currently holding an online auction which will close at 2pm on June 1, 2011 – and can be found by visiting: http://auctions.weblite.ca/purebluefoundation/

“The Royal Summer” In California: Three Days Isn’t Enough

California’s Travel Industry Welcomes the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, Invites Royalty Fans to Follow in their Footsteps with Launch of “Three Days Isn’t Enough” Campaign

SACRAMENTO, CA — The California Travel & Tourism Commission (CTTC) is pleased to declare summer 2011 “The Royal Summer” in California. In addition to rolling out the golden carpet for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during their first official California visit July 8-10, 2011, CTTC invites visitors from around the world to celebrate The Royal Summer in California.

“We are thrilled to welcome the royal newlyweds to California this summer,” said Caroline Beteta, CTTC President and CEO. “In fact, we’ve crowned this The Royal Summer in California to truly own our incredible enthusiasm for this once-in-a-generation occasion. While three days certainly isn’t enough to experience the diversity and abundance of our great state, we hope this introduction to the California lifestyle and attitude inspires many happy returns for the Duke and Duchess and those following their travels.”

Where will they go and what will they see? The royal couple’s itinerary has yet to be formally announced – but we do know they can’t possibly see it all in three days. With that challenge in mind, CTTC will launch a global “Three Days Isn’t Enough” campaign in June, encouraging the royal couple – and travelers around the world – to take an extended visit throughout the Golden State.

“From our iconic cities and natural wonders, to the amazing beaches, restaurants and wineries, theme parks and resorts, California has much to offer the royal couple – and visitors from around the world,” said Beteta.  “With special royal vacation packages and themed itineraries, everyone will be able to experience a royal summer in California.”

The Royal Summer is a statewide celebration and collaboration among California’s travel industry partners and destinations around the state. Be it following in Will and Kate’s footsteps, embracing their active lifestyle or booking a holiday fit for a king, travelers can enjoy California’s diversity and abundance with a distinctly regal twist throughout July and August. Hotels, attractions and venues statewide will be offering special Royal Summer packages and playfully-themed experiences, giving everyone the opportunity to bask in the royal afterglow. From over-the-top luxury and British-inspired to value-driven and quirky, the “People’s Prince and Princess” – as the down-to-earth couple are often referred to – would surely approve of the inclusive nature of California’s Royal Summer.

The California Travel & Tourism Commission is a non-profit organization with a mission to develop and maintain marketing programs – in partnership with the state’s travel industry – that keep California top-of-mind as a premier travel destination. According to CTTC, travel and tourism expenditures total $95.1 billion annually in California (18 percent of which is international), support jobs for 873,000 Californians and generate $6.1 billion in state and local tax revenues. For more information about CTTC and for a free California Visitor’s Guide, go to VisitCalifornia.com.

Madagascar: A Crate Adventure

Opens at Universal Studios Singapore® on 16 May 2011
Universal Studios Singapore, the world-class theme park within Resorts World Sentosa, the first integrated resort destination in Singapore, today announced that guests can soon join the famous escapees from the New York Zoo when Madagascar : A Crate Adventure debuts on 16 May. This new theme park attraction is inspired by DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: DWA) Madagascar film series, one of the most successful animated movie franchises of all time.  Among the longest rides in Universal Studios Singapore,  Madagascar: A Crate Adventure is a nine-minute indoor flume ride that takes guests on a river boat adventure with Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo.
The Central Park “Zoosters” join forces with the eccentric leader of the local lemurs, King Julien – and Universal Studios Singapore guests – to help defeat the dreaded Foosa. Aided by the technically-savvy and hilarious Penguins, the heroes and guests together defeat the Foosa at the rim of a bubbling volcanic cauldron. Along the way, they encounter a giant alligator, wild-eyed spiders and more.
Mr. Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chief Executive Officer of DreamWorks Animation, said: “Madagascar: A Crate Adventure is the primary attraction built within the first-ever theme park zone dedicated exclusively to all things related to and inspired by our Madagascar movie series. We are excited about the way in which it allows people to interact with DreamWorks Animation’s unique characters and worlds in a memorable family experience.”
Mr. Tan Hee Teck, Chief Executive Officer of Resorts World Sentosa, said: “We sought to translate the worldwide appeal of the Madagascar movies into this attraction and I believe we succeeded.  It is an exhilarating ride with fantastic sets and a terrific storyline.  This attraction can be enjoyed by the whole family, from Grandma to Little Tot.’’
Mr. Thomas Williams, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Parks & Resorts, said: “Madagascar: A Crate Adventure is an excellent example of how a compelling attraction can arise from a creative alliance between companies that share a commitment to family entertainment. It’s a unique ride that once again enables guests to Ride The Movies at a world-class Universal Studios theme park.”
The Madagascar: A Crate Adventure attraction, the first in the world of its kind based on the Madagascar franchise, was conceptualized by some of the world’s most creative theme park designers at Resorts World Sentosa in collaboration with DreamWorks Animation and Universal Parks & Resorts.
Universal Studios Singapore has six attractions based on DreamWorks Animation films. The attractions are spread across two zones – Madagascar and Far Far Away – and are complemented by more than 10 themed dining and shopping outlets. In addition to Madagascar: A Crate Adventure, other attractions include King Julien’s Beach Party-Go-Round, the Shrek 4-D Adventure, Enchanted Airways, Donkey LIVE and Magic Potion Spin.
