Carriageworks presents acclaimed Italian theatre company Motus’ electric work MDLSX

Carriageworks will present the Sydney premiere of Italian theatre company Motus’ MDLSX, a confronting, empowering hymn to androgyny. For three nights from 16 – 18 March, platinum-maned punk god/dess Silvia Calderoni will bring her unique brand of performance to audiences, using her family’s home videos to blur fiction with her own life story. Part performance-art monologue, part DJ set featuring music from The Smiths, Vampire Weekend and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, this is a show that, like its subject, proudly defies classification.

MDLSX is an 80-minute performance weaving autobiography and literary evocations in a lively celebration of exploration, the freedom of becoming and gender-blending, presenting a being that cannot be contained within the borders of the body, skin colour, sexual organs, or boundaries of national identity.

Motus has a reputation of blurring boundaries of form and content in theatre, and their presentation of MDLSX is no different. Directed and conceived by Motus founders Daniela Nicolò and Enrico Casagrande and using music, video, monologue and physical performance, MDLSX tells the thought-provoking story of a gender fluid character, encouraging the audience to embrace difference and to question the way the world classifies and defines human beings.

MDLSX is performed by multi-award winning actress and artist Silvia Calderoni, who was born in Lugo, in the northern Ravenna region of Italy, in 1981. Calderoni began her acting career at an early age with Teatro Valdoca, and since 2006 has worked with directors Daniela Nicolò and Enrico Casagrande at Motus, specially creating performances that explore her androgyny. In January 2013, a jury composed of 70 experts and insiders awarded Calderoni the Marte Award “for being able to innovate while maintaining the characteristics and techniques of the traditional theatre on stage” for her performance in Alexis. A Greek Tragedy.

New York Theatre Review has described Calderoni’s performance in MDLXS as one of “fearless vulnerability” that “is required viewing for anyone interested in multimedia expression, gender identity, and boundary-destroying performance art.”

Carriageworks Director Lisa Havilah said: “Carriageworks is excited to be bringing this bold solo performance to Sydney audiences for the first time that has been described as exhilarating, high-intensity exploration of identity.”

This production contains nudity, strobe and laser lighting, recommended for ages 16 years and over.

Eat, Sip, Love Champagne Afternoon Tea Set at COCO

If love is effervescent, then The Mira Hong Kong’s newest afternoon tea set comes just in time for the sweet month of romantic gestures. Available exclusively from 1 till 28 February 2017 at the hotel’s chic café patisserie COCO, the stylish proposition by Executive Pastry Chef Jean-Marc Gaucher ticks off all the boxes featuring some of the most popular champagne cocktails of all times reimagined into bubbly-licious desserts bursting with fruity flavors.

This Valentine’s Day and not only, couples – and pairs of foodies with everlasting love for all things sweet and bubbly – are teased with seductive desserts inspired with iconic Bellini, weekend brunch must-have Mimosa, and the French favorite Kir Royal, in their edible forms.

COCO’s Moët & Chandon Champagne Afternoon Tea Set features 4 sweets passionately crafted with ephemeral bubbles, including delicate Champagne Jelly with Cassis topped with gold leaf (Kir Royal), exotic Cointreau Mini Baba with Orange Supreme and a sip of champagne (Mimosa), a dome of Peach & Champagne Compote with Vanilla Mousse (Bellini), and the silky Grenadine Cream & Champagne topped with seasonal strawberry (American Rose). The sparkling flavor can also be found in one of the savories – the Smoked Salmon and Crab Meat Sushi served with Champagne Jelly.

Moët & Chandon Impérial Champagne is one of the world’s most popular blends featuring almost equal measures of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier. “It has a refreshing, pastry-scented fizz with a hint of vanilla, which makes it a good companion for sweets and savories, as well as gracious ingredient,” explains Chef Jean-Marc Gaucher. “Homemade preserves of floral Rose & Wild Strawberry Jam with Pink Cranberry Scone and luscious clotted cream pair exceptionally well with the bubbles.”

Winter tea selection including Rose with French Vanilla or a choice of signature coffees complete the experience while the afternoon tea is designed to be experienced with a flute of perfectly chilled champagne.

Served on a custom-made tea stand shaped after a hand bag, afternoon tea at COCO has a distinctively feminine touch reflecting the spirit of Hong Kong’s shopping mecca, Tsim Sha Tsui, where The Mira Hong Kong is a trendy haven from the city bustle.

Champagne Afternoon Tea Set is available daily from 3pm – 6pm at COCO (G/F Lobby); and on Saturdays at WHISK (5/F) restaurant overlooking green courtyard terrace Vibes.

Record Number of Brands Choose Singapore Yacht Show 2017 to Debut Yachts

The seventh instalment of Asia’s premier boat show promises to impress with regional premieres on water, lifestyle events and glamorous parties on water and on- land

Excitement and anticipation for the seventh edition of the Singapore Yacht Show (SYS) is already building despite being four months away. From 6-9 April 2017, some of the industry’s most important yacht builders and brokers will once again showcase their vessels at ONE°15 Marina Club in Sentosa Cove.

As the Show organisers draw the curtain on last December’s successful Thailand Yacht Show, they now shift their focus to Singapore. The second edition of the Thailand Yacht Show, held in partnership with the Thai government, took place from 15-18 December 2016 in Phuket’s Ao Po Grand Marina. With 60 exhibitors and no less than 55 vessels on display including 18 superyachts, the offering was certainly ‘bigger and better’ than any before. In addition to the sparkling displays of yachts and superyachts presented along the pontoons of Ao Po Grand Marina, the Demo Platform by Java Yachting offered live demonstrations of dinghy sailing, SUP, dragon boating and kayaking. Luxury lifestyle brands were also on land at the Exhibition Pavilion, to feature the very finest in Phuket property, fashion, cars and nautical ancillaries. The social scene at TYS was electric, with parties every night both on land and on board. TYS is set to come back with its third edition, which will take place between 14-17 December 2017.

Looking onward to SYS 2017, Andy Treadwell, Managing Director of both shows said, “We are very proud of what we have achieved in just seven years. We’re thrilled that so many of the industry’s most important players have identified SYS as the most effective platform from which to present their products to the Asian market. We are working flat out with a whole raft of important new local partners in all the strategic countries in the region to get the right kind of visitor coming to Singapore next April”.

Hong Seh Marine will once again display an impressive lineup of yachts, including the Asia premiere of the Cranchi Z35, and the return of the popular Cranchi Eco Trawler 43, which made her premiere at SYS2016. These along with an impressive array of Ferretti’s will give Hong Seh Marine one of the largest presences at the show.

Superyacht Brokers & Builders

SYS2017 will welcome a high calibre of brands including superyacht builders Amels, Baglietto, Benetti, Feadship, Fincantieri, Heesen, Lürssen, Silver Yachts, Heysea and Westport. International yacht brokerage company Fraser Yachts will return with an impressive array of superyachts. Ferretti Group will introduce two new yachts to the market, showcasing the brand new Ferretti 450 and Pershing 5X, while the Ferretti 700 will make her Asian debut as well.

Catamarans are King

Multihulls have long been popular in South East Asia, and have been particularly well received at SYS. Not only do they offer expansive interior and exterior spaces, they also provide great stability while underway and at anchor. SYS 2017 will welcome a new exhibitor, HH Catamarans who builds

Sunreef Yachts will be returning to the Show with an expanded line-up including the newly redesigned Sunreef 62, which will be making her Asian debut. Leopard Catamarans will be making two regional debuts with the Leopard 40 and 43.
