Unveiling the Culinary Magic: Chef May Chow Brings Chinese Delights to the Maldives

Renowned Hong Kong chef and entrepreneur, May Chow, is collaborating with award-winning sustainable luxury resorts operatorSoneva, to bring a creative Chinese culinary experience to Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani in the Maldives during Chinese New Year,from 9th to 21st February 2024. She will delight guests with her inspired Chinese flavour twists, blending fine-dining techniques, and traditional local ingredients, showcasing the versatility of Chinese cuisine at Soneva Fushi’s Out of the Blue “Once upon a table” and The Crab Shack at Soneva Jani.

Chef May Chow is a Canadian-born, Hong Kong-based chef and is the founder of Little Bao and Happy Paradise which was recognised as one of Tatler’s Best 20 Restaurants in Macau and Hong Kong in 2019 and 2020, and Time Magazine listed it as one of the World’s Greatest Places in 2018. Happy Paradise has also been selected in the World’s 50 Best Discovery list. The success of both restaurants has catapulted her onto the global food scene, where she is widely regarded as one of the most dynamic and respected culinary figures.

In 2017, Chef May was honoured with the title of Best Female Chef by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. She has made appearances on popular TV programs such as Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown, MasterChef Asia, MasterChef UK, and Top Chef. She has also beena speaker at the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. May has been featured in international media such as BBC, CNN, Vogue, Forbes, Food & Wine, The Food Network, Eater, and more. She actively serves on the board of Eat Forum, Save Hong Kong F&B and is an outspoken supporter for LGBTQ rights, diversity, and female empowerment.

Out of the Blue, a captivating two-story overwater hideaway at Soneva Fushi, sets the stage for Chef May to showcase her signature-style buns and dishes. Prepared with fresh local ingredients, her creations are infused with Chinese flavour twists and presented in a fusion style. The Crab Shack at Soneva Jani is voted as the ‘World’s Most Romantic Restaurant’ on CNN.com, which is the perfect spot to host the expert visiting chefs. The 32-cover restaurant and 14-seat bar is located on Soneva Jani’s southwest beach, on the opposite side of the island to Cinema Paradiso, and is comprised of two levels. The ground floor is taken up by the restaurant, kitchen and bar area, with the first-floor deck designed especially for guests to relax on tiered daybeds and enjoy the Maldivian sunsets while sipping on rosé wine or other beverages.
