HAWKER LEGENDS AT NIHI SUMBA RETURNS WITH JIMBARAN’S GRILLED SEAFOOD PIONEER
Hawker Legends at NIHI Sumba returns for its second chapter from 18–20 July 2026, continuing its celebration of Indonesia’s living culinary heritage through the iconic establishments and passionate food custodians who have shaped local dining cultures for generations. This edition welcomes Teba Cafe Jimbaran, a pioneer of Bali’s renowned grilled seafood tradition, for an exclusive three-day culinary residency in Sumba.
Created to honor the culinary institutions that have become woven into the cultural fabric of their communities, Hawker Legends at NIHI Sumba offers guests an opportunity to experience the stories, traditions, and craftsmanship behind some of Indonesia’s most enduring food legacies. Through intimate collaborations with legendary local establishments, the series shines a spotlight on the people and places that continue to preserve the country’s rich and diverse culinary identity.

Established in 1999, Teba Cafe Jimbaran emerged during a defining period in Jimbaran’s transformation from a traditional fishing village into one of Bali’s most celebrated culinary destinations. Named after Banjar Teba, one of Jimbaran’s traditional village communities, the family-run restaurant was among the pioneering establishments that helped shape the beachfront grilled seafood culture that has become synonymous with Jimbaran today.
For more than 25 years, Teba Cafe Jimbaran has remained committed to the traditions that first defined its reputation. Fresh seafood sourced from local waters, warm Balinese hospitality, and a signature family marinade passed down through generations continue to form the heart of the dining experience. Grilled over coconut husks using techniques preserved through time, its seafood reflects the enduring relationship between Jimbaran’s fishing heritage and culinary culture.

Throughout the residency, guests will experience the signature flavors that have defined Teba Cafe Jimbaran for more than two decades. Fresh seafood sourced from local waters is marinated in the restaurant’s treasured family spice blend, a recipe passed down through generations, before being grilled over coconut husks using traditional techniques that impart a distinctive smoky depth. Served alongside Balinese staples such as plecing kangkung and sambal matah, the menu offers a taste of the culinary traditions that helped shape Jimbaran’s iconic grilled seafood culture.

Set against the untamed landscapes of Sumba, the collaboration brings together two destinations deeply connected to place, community, and cultural preservation. Through Hawker Legends, NIHI Sumba continues to celebrate the richness of Indonesia’s culinary traditions while providing a platform for the local institutions that have safeguarded them for generations.
