#12 Best Italian Restaurant Giando Presents 12th Anniversary Menu Chef Gianni Caprioli Bids Farewell to Star Street with Restaurant’s Signatures New Pacific Place Location to be debuted in The Third Quarter
Hong Kong – Giando Group, founded by Italian chef Gianni Caprioli, has been rooted in Hong Kong for over a decade. Its flagship Italian restaurant, Giando Italian Restaurant & Bar, was the group’s first restaurant project. This year, it was selected by 50 Top Italy as one of the World’s 50 Best Italian Restaurants, ranking #12. Now entering its 12th anniversary at the Star Street location, the restaurant endeavours to use artisanal ingredients to create Italian flavours that honour tradition while showcasing the chef’s progressive footprint from his past ventures across various cities.

Giando will be relocating to Pacific Place in the third quarter of this year, bringing its authentic Italian dining experience to a new venue. The Star Street home is now launching a 12th Anniversary Classic Menu from 1 June onwards which celebrates the essences of shared memories and beloved signature dishes.
Years of Recognition helmed by Chef Gianni Caprioli
For a restaurant brand to stand firm for a decade in Hong Kong is no easy feat, serving as the best testament to its strength and resilience, Chef Gianni Caprioli, founder and Group Executive Chef of Giando, demonstrates his dedication to Italian food culture. Hailing from Basilicata in southern Italy, Gianni opened his first restaurant in Italy at the age of 19, later working as a chef in Europe, the United States, and Japan. Between 2001 and 2004, he served as the private chef to the late Gianni Agnelli, the Italian wealthiest individual and former chairman of the Fiat Group.
After settling in Hong Kong in 2004, Gianni has been committed to devotion of premium ingredients. He founded the Giando in 2012, which now the Group encompasses multiple restaurants, authentic Italian grocery stores, and food supply business importing artisanal Italian brands to Hong Kong. In 2021, he was honoured by the Italian state with the “Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy,” the country’s second-highest honour, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to promoting Italian culture overseas. “Giando Italian Restaurant & Bar” has also been selected by Italy’s “50 Top Italy” as one of the “World’s 50 Best Italian Restaurants” from 2019 to 2026, achieving its highest #12 place in 2026.
Grand Relocation: 12th Anniversary Menu Steeped in Shared Memories
While the brand has long been recognized by local gourmands, Chef Gianni never rests on his laurels. Originally opening at Fenwick Pier as Giando in 2012, then moving to its current Star Street location after 3 years, the brand is now preparing for an exciting new chapter. In the third quarter, Giando will also be relocating to Pacific Place, a more expansive location with alfresco dining space. While retaining the wisdom of Italian cuisine, the new bar will feature an immersive wine and cocktail experience. Echoing Giando’s 12th anniversary at its current Star Street home, Chef Gianni will host a flavorful farewell with friends and guests through a menu laden with shared memories and Giando’s statement dishes.
Anniversary Menu: A Six-Course Sumptuous Dinner

Available from 1 June to 31 August, 2026, the 12th Anniversary Menu allows Giando’s guests to enjoy six signature dishes all at once within the memory-filled space of the Star Street.
First served is the classic “Gazpacho,” an appetizing and refreshing cold soup to commence the meal. The second course is the “Piatto Di Antipasti”. This dish has long been a hidden menu item at Giando. Since guests often find it difficult to choose from an array of appetizers, Chef created the rare concept of a selection platter featuring four distinct types of Italian antipasti, which has become the regulars’ best-kept secret over the years, offering guests a chance to sample a little bit of everything. Featuring four antipasti features various regional flavours of Italy at once, this quartet includes Slow Cooked Veal Loin with Tuna Hazelnut Sauce, a Piedmont specialty; Fried Calamari and Fried Zucchini, reflecting Venetian flavours; Fresh Artisanal Burrata from Puglia with Italian Tomatoes; and Octopus with Potato Salad, representing Italian coastal traditions.
The third course is “Duo Di Primi”, presenting two types of pasta that showcase the essence of Italian cuisine with Gianni’s personal touch. These include “Spaghetti Aglio e Olio with Japanese Sea Urchin.” Gianni, who worked in Japan many years ago, enjoys blending Japanese elements with Italian culinary traditions. This pasta is prepared in the traditional aglio e olio style, paired with jet-fresh Japanese sea urchin and Italian bottarga, with umami flavours perfectly integrated into the pasta. Another much-loved pasta is “Duck & Game Ragu Gnocchi.” The ragu is homemade with duck, guinea fowl, and turkey meat, simmered with bone broth and tomatoes, paired with homemade gnocchi that perfectly balances its richness.

The fourth course is a choice of two mains. “Patagonian Toothfish with Clam Broth & Sicilian Cherry Tomato” or “Lamb Rack with Artichokes.” The fish sourced from pristine waters near Antarctica and New Zealand, is coated with breadcrumbs and baked until crispy, accompanied by a traditional Italian steamed clam broth with fresh, sweet flavours to burst on the palate. Originating from the Abruzzo region in central Italy, the lamb rack is served with Cacio e Ova, a traditional Abruzzese sauce made with Roman Pecorino, a hard, salty sheep’s milk cheese known for its sharp, tangy flavor. Served alongside artichokes, this dish creates a classic yet charming Italian main course.
The fifth course is “Coconut Sorbet with Mango.” The sorbet is homemade with natural coconut purée and young coconut water, accompanied by a thick, sugarless mango purée. Coconut is very popular in summer, especially in coastal areas. This refreshing palate cleanser prepares the palate for the final dessert duo. The sixth course is “Duo Di Dolci”, homemade Tiramisu, made without alcohol following the traditional recipe with 100% Italian ingredients including Italian yellow eggs, Savoiardi (ladyfingers) and fresh mascarpone cheese. The Chocolate Hazelnut Cake is a three-layer cake made with vanilla, chocolate mousse, and a Piedmontese hazelnut glaze, offering a rich and nutty aroma.
Cheers with Pure Italian Wine-Pairing

Guests enjoying the 12th Anniversary dinner can opt for Italian wine pairings. The sommelier team has specially hand-picked Italian wines for four selected courses. The wineries are unique brands that Chef Gianni has personally visited and thoroughly researched. These include MEROTTO, a winery from the Veneto region, renowned for its top-quality Prosecco Valdobbiadene DOCG, which will be paired with the Gazpacho for a refreshing note. The wine paired with the Patagonia toothfish comes from MASSERIA FRATTASI, a winery founded in 1779 in the mountainous Campania region, where all grapes are grown at altitudes above 600 meters, preserving the flavours of volcanic soil and the Mediterranean climate.
