OUTRIGGER Resorts & Hotels Achieves Green Key Certification for Three Thailand Resorts

THAILAND – OUTRIGGER Resorts & Hotels has achieved Green Key certification for three of its beachfront resorts in Thailand, marking a significant milestone in the company’s sustainability strategy and reinforcing its long-standing commitment to responsible hospitality.

Operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), Green Key is a globally recognised standard for excellence in sustainable hospitality. Hotels and resorts undergo a rigorous independent audit assessing operational performance across a wide range of sustainability criteria, including energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management and community engagement.

The three OUTRIGGER resorts to receive Green Key certification are:

“At OUTRIGGER, we understand that we are the guardians of our destinations and have a responsibility to nurture them for future generations,” said Damian Clowes, Regional Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Outrigger Hospitality Group.

“Everywhere we operate, we strive to minimise our environmental footprint while working closely with local communities to create a positive impact. Achieving Green Key certification at these three resorts in Thailand is an important milestone and a clear reflection of the progress we are making through our sustainability strategy.”

Sustainability is embedded throughout OUTRIGGER’s operations. Launched in 2014, OUTRIGGER Zone is the company’s global environmental and social responsibility platform, encompassing nature conservation, resource efficiency, waste reduction and responsible sourcing across all destinations.

As a specialist in beachfront hospitality, OUTRIGGER is also committed to protecting coastal ecosystems through initiatives such as beach clean-ups, coral reef restoration, mangrove planting and community partnerships. During World Ocean Month this June, the company will continue prioritising marine conservation and investing in innovative solutions that create long-term environmental and community benefits.

In Thailand, OUTRIGGER has implemented a range of sustainability initiatives that strengthen its connection to the environment, deepen guest engagement with local communities and support Green Key certification across its resorts. Following the certification of OUTRIGGER Surin Beach Resort, OUTRIGGER Khao Lak Beach Resort and OUTRIGGER Koh Samui Beach Resort, OUTRIGGER Phi Phi Island Resort is now preparing for its own certification process.

OUTRIGGER Surin Beach Resort

Overlooking the Andaman Sea on Phuket’s sunset coast, OUTRIGGER Surin Beach Resort is an intimate boutique retreat that embraces environmentally conscious operations. In line with the OUTRIGGER Zone philosophy, the resort uses chemical-free cleaning products, low-energy lighting and water-saving fixtures throughout the property without compromising guest comfort.

Guests can enjoy eco-labelled ingredients in the resort’s dining venues, in-room amenities made from recycled materials and a pristine beachfront maintained through ongoing sustainability efforts.

OUTRIGGER Khao Lak Beach Resort

OUTRIGGER Khao Lak Beach Resort combines family-friendly beachfront experiences with a strong commitment to marine conservation. The resort has partnered with local organisations to help construct protective enclosures for sea turtle eggs, ensuring safe hatching conditions away from predators.

Resort associates and guests have also participated in sea turtle release initiatives, alongside mangrove reforestation and beach clean-up campaigns that help preserve Khao Lak’s coastal ecosystem.

OUTRIGGER Koh Samui Beach Resort

Located on the shores of Lamai Beach, OUTRIGGER Koh Samui Beach Resort actively supports marine and environmental conservation initiatives. Over the past four years, the resort has partnered with Baan Tai Crab Bank to nurture and release baby crabs into the ocean, while another project has contributed to the planting of 15 rai (2.4 hectares) of seagrass.

The resort’s Coral Kids Club introduces children to recycling and environmental awareness through engaging educational activities, while native plant species throughout the property are labelled to encourage guests to learn more about Koh Samui’s local flora.
