YSL Beauté reinvents springtime through a new artistic collaboration where art meets fragrance. Spring 2015 sees the collector edition of PARIS PREMIÈRES ROSES conceived by Japanese artist Que Houxo. A contemporary reinvention in a fresh and audacious visualisation via the enduring inspiration of Paris.
A FLUORESCENT FLOWERING OF THE PARISIAN SPRING
Paris is love. A fragrance that pays tribute to the city of romance. The city of freedom, of revolution.
YSL Beauté has called on the emerging Japanese painter and graphic artist Que Houxo to reinvent PARIS PREMIÈRES ROSES. Young and rebellious, Que Houxo studied at Tokyo’s prestigious Tama Art Universtity and used the urban landscape as his canvas before his body of work became recognised.
Asked to celebrate PARIS PREMIÈRES ROSES, Que Houxo paints in the dark, using fluorescent pigment, with flickering UV light. Like a graffiti artist, he splatters colours onto walls, floors, using his hands or screen printing tools, creating splashes of vivid pigment to evoke explosive flowers. The creative process is filmed in fast motion with lights switching on an off so that colours appear and disappear in an incessant performance. A dance inspired by light. A rebel thinking and unorthodox techniques that fuse technology and art and have produced a spectacular interpretation of spring. Of the rose. Of Paris.
THE LUMINOUSSIGNATURE OF AN OLFACTIVE REVOLUTION
When PARIS was first created in 1983, it was with a radical new approach to perfumery, orchestrated by the international nose Sophia Grojsman. One of the very first powdery rose accord, with an unprecedentedly high concentration of Rosa damascenapetals, PARIS is a universal declaration of love to the city and the women who embrace it.
For PARIS PREMIÈRES ROSES, a fresh new spirit is revealed in a lighter, more luminous bouquet that expresses its youthful energy. The renaissance comes to life with top notes of dog rose, violet leaves and neroliaccord effervescing with radiance and luminosity. At its heart, Rosa damascena is tempered by the petal-like softness of a refreshing peony accord and creamy lily of the valley accord. A lingering trail of rose eventually remains, imprinted on the skin, caressed by white musk and sandalwood accord.
