PORTS 1961

For Pre-Fall, Ports 1961 builds on the brand’s foundations of simplicity and spontaneity to offer a modern take on the classic, treasured pieces that fill a woman’s wardrobe. “The hallmarks of Ports 1961 are present in elements of uniformity, shirting and in the silhouette,” creative director Nataša Čagalj explains. “Throughout the design process, memories of beloved outfits that remind us of happy times are called upon to create a new wardrobe of ‘forever’ garments. These are pieces to be worn as new memories are created.”

Cutting away at finished garments to reveal their elementary structures creates a range of versatile frame-like pieces that hover in the realm between the garment and the accessory. Key to the Ports 1961 brand is the idea of the adaptable garment and its individuality, able to be styled by she who wears it in the way that she prefers. Luxurious fabrics such as silk duchesse, wool melange and incredibly light pinstripe wool reflect the versatility of the collection itself. Subtle near-neutrals such as shades of white, taupe, navy, burgundy and dusky pink explore the range of needs within the modern wardrobe. “Our woman is confident and daring, but she always has the ability to laugh at herself,” says Nataša. “We have a lot of fun and freedom in our own design process and we wanted to project that feeling of happiness into the collection.”

The freedom of play and of the idea of a party, be it a tuxedo or a kids party is palpable throughout the collection. Elegant tailored pieces contain lively, whimsical details – like embroidered flower and rainbow trims. Elsewhere, painterly prints appear in bursts of vibrant colour on shirts and fluid skirts and trousers. While vivid rainbow colour-blocked mohair knit and patchwork woven fabric blankets seek to accentuate a light-hearted and playful spirit. This is a collection for the woman who wants to live, and to live well, with freedom, joy and ease.
