Shiro Central at Tai Kwun Officially Opens
Aqua Restaurant Group has officially opened Shiro Central at Tai Kwun, the city’s newest destination for contemporary Japanese dining. Set in the vibrant heart of the heritage landmark, the striking dual-level venue offers the perfect setting for lively terrace drinks and relaxed dining from day to night. Moving beyond its reputation as a premier drinks destination, Shiro Central presents a modern Japanese oasis as this storied venue’s new chapter. Here, fun and effortless drinks naturally spill into casual meals, making Shiro Central the go-to spot for everything from after-work drinks to laid-back weekend gatherings.
Featuring Shiro Signature Dishes and New Debuts
Presenting innovative Japanese cuisine inspired by Tokyo’s buzzing districts, the kitchen at Shiro Central is helmed by Executive Chef Tatsuya Iwahashi and Executive Sushi Chef Jeff Ko. Together, they bring more than two decades of expertise to Shiro Central, shaping a menu that distinguishes itself through a refined selection of ingredients. The chefs remain committed to sourcing the finest fresh produce from handpicked international suppliers alongside seasonal Japanese treasures.
“Shiro Central is an exciting new step for us. Following the success of Shiro Pacific Place, we are bringing that same contemporary energy to the heart of Tai Kwun. From drinks with friends to business lunches and relaxed dinners, Shiro Central offers a fresh take on contemporary Japanese for every occasion,” Alex Bellafronte, Global Chief Operations Officer of Aqua Restaurant Group.

A Dual-Floor Space Where Japanese Heritage Meets Colonial Chic
Accommodating up to 150 guests, Shiro Central’s interiors blend traditional Japanese sensibilities with colonial-era elegance across a thoughtfully designed dual-floor layout. The experience begins outdoors at the Mango Tree Terrace on G/F Parade Ground — a lush alfresco setting framed by olive-green seating and neutral-toned umbrellas beneath a historic canopy.
Guests may also retreat to the covered terrace lounge, where long sage-green banquettes line a colonnade-style space. Indoors, the bar is anchored by a glowing counter, intricate lattice screens, and subtle “rifle” detailing — a quiet nod to the building’s past.
Upstairs, the main dining room unfolds via a dark timber staircase, revealing dramatic tasselled silk drapery, a die-cut Shiro logo ceiling, and police badge displays inspired by the site’s history. Intimate gatherings are hosted in the private dining room, centred around a large round table beneath traditional globe lanterns. The level is completed by its own dining terrace and bar station, with warm wooden furniture and lush greenery creating a relaxed yet refined atmosphere.
