Sumac Reimagines Lebanese Dining in Hong Kong With a New À La Carte Menu

ong Kong has long been a crossroads of cultures and cuisine, yet few restaurants capture the soul of Lebanon with the warmth, precision, and pride that Sumac has brought since 2010. Named after the spice that enlivens every dish it touches, Sumac carries ancient roots and a distinctive flavour rarely found elsewhere in the city. Like its eponymous spice, the restaurant transforms dining: a meeting of tradition and refinement, where authentic Lebanese flavours are elevated without losing their soul. With the launch of its new À La Carte Menu, Sumac invites diners to explore time-honoured recipes reimagined for the modern table, where each dish balances heritage with contemporary sensibility.

Lebanese cuisine itself is a story written over millennia, with roots stretching across the Eastern Mediterranean. Phoenicians, Persians, and Romans laid its foundations, while Ottoman and French influences layered in spices, techniques, and ingredients that remain central to its identity today. At Sumac, these echoes of history are never mere footnotes; they guide the selection of spices, the care in preparation, and the warmth of hospitality, connecting every diner to the enduring, layered narrative of Lebanese gastronomy.

Flavours that Tell a Story
The new menu invites guests to explore Lebanese cuisine with depth and nuance. The Mezza Selection (HK$198) presents a trio of classic dips—Hummus, Baba Ghannouj, and Mouhamara—crafted with care and vibrancy. The Mouajanet Selection (HK$178) combines crisp Sambousik, fragrant Kibbeh, and cheese-filled Rekakat prepared by hand, balancing texture and taste with an artisanal touch, while the refreshingly zesty Phoenician Frikeh Salad (HK$148) balances smoky green wheat, walnuts, pomegranate, and fresh herbs in every bite.

A Space to Celebrate Lebanese Culture
Sumac is not just designed for dining, but for evoking memory and place. Traditional Phoenician arches and motifs recall Lebanon’s ancient role as a gateway of exchange and culture, while mother-of-pearl, brass, stone, and wood echo the craftsmanship of its homes and souks. Every detail is intentional, from the curves of the architecture to the Mediterranean soundscape, creating a setting where the act of sharing food becomes an immersion into Lebanese identity. The extensive collection of Lebanese wines—Asia’s largest—anchors this story, each bottle carrying the soil, sun, and resilience of Lebanon itself.
