Opening on 29th January and located in the Shatin based New Town Plaza, Ted’s second store in Hong Kong occupies 1895 sq ft of retail space and brings a quintessentially English country house design to the bustling Plaza mall.
Ted’s always on the lookout for an interesting location and this time he has created a true home from home. Ted’s house has been folded, twisted, pressed and transported to fit into the shop space creating a multitude of interesting angles. Framed oil paintings bend around walls and a geometric feature wall provides slanted shelving.
With Shatin’s rich history as a famous picnicing spot, Ted fuses the two themes together reviving the traditions of the picnic and bringing them alive within the country house design providing the perfect setting for Ted’s vibrant SS11 collections.
Re-styled picnic benches and stacked hampers provide tables to show off Ted’s clothing and accessories, whilst gingham tablecloth checks and chintzy floral fabrics add texture. A glance at the ceiling reveals a teapot display hanging from the exposed timber beams and an impressive exploding picnic chandelier installation made up of broken pieces of crockery and teapots mixed with artificial cakes and food.
The theme continues into the fitting rooms, with a mural of a Victorian picnic scene adorning the walls whilst glass jars containing butterflies – as if caught and suspended mid-flight whilst fluttering past – become the lights. The cash desk takes the form of an illuminated picnic table which houses a three dimensional collage of a picnic scene decorated with china and cutlery. Further quirky touches found whilst exploring the store are sure to surprise and delight in true Ted style.
