The 12 Days of Margiela
This season, Maison Margiela invites you to follow the 12 Days of Margiela, inspired by an
archival embroidered cotton calendar of the Maison. The 12 Days of Margiela unfolds as a
reinterpretation of the Calendar, and as a play on the classic holiday countdown. Here, each
number connected to a corresponding line becomes a meaningful moment, translating the
physical object into a reflection on the numeric coding system. The numeric coding uses
numbers 0 to 23 to identify different lines of the Maison. This coding appears as part of the
numeric logo, when a number is circled it corresponds to a specific collection, distinguishing the
pieces while maintaining focus on our Maison Margiela anonymity.

The original calendar was launched in 2009 as a part of Line 13, in the collection of “White Objects”
a series that reappropriated the everyday into design artifacts. The embroidered cotton calendar,
once its year concluded, doubled as a twelve-piece napkin set. Now, in digital form, the numeric-
coded calendar is transformed into the 12 Days of Margiela, becoming a means for connection
during the holiday season. Drawing from the archival calendar, and highlighting the numeric
system, we reveal twelve distinct universes within the Maison. The calendar traces a path through
Maison Margiela’s collections, from Line 0 Artisanal to Line 22 Shoes, revealing the dialogue
between past and present, couture and the everyday.
