Theory Project by Lucas Ossendrijver’s Spring 2023 Collection

Lucas Ossendrijver’s Spring 2023 Theory Project capsule continues to explore New York’s dynamic energy. Building on ideas and themes from his debut Fall 2022 collection, the Spring 2023 men’s and women’s collections see the city’s spirit and movement materialize in fluid fabrics, utilitarian details, and joyful custom prints imbued with motion. The introduction of the brand’s first sneaker hones in on the tension between functional and noble materials and further reinforces Ossendrijver’s juxtaposition of feminine and masculine.

Ossendrijver’s impeccable and innovative tailoring is evident throughout the collection. Coordinating men’s and women’s versions of a single style creates a mirror effect throughout the line. “There’s a fantasy in design, but ultimately it needs to be functional and purposeful,” Ossendrijver says. “This collection was designed with a laser focus on the wearer and their lifestyle. Even though Theory Project is a small capsule, it has to serve everybody. That’s why you have options.” Ossendrijver translates this ethos with a spirited point of view on color and craft. Pops of blue, violet, and ruby red temper the capsule’s muted grays, bubbly amber, and earthy shades of green.

Steeped in hues from lilac to cognac, the Theory Project custom developed sneakers are defined by sinuous lines tipped with reflective materials. Made for both men and women in a further nod to the connection between the two, the sneaker is finished with bespoke rubberized soles made for city streets geared towards urban exploration.

Intended as a modern wardrobe rather than a collection, Ossendrijver’s Spring 2023 capsule takes the stiffness out of classic tailoring and animates the foundational silhouettes for which Theory is known. Realized in a campaign shot by David Sims, coursing with the vitality of New York, the next chapter of Theory Project includes men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, footwear, and accessories.
